Medicare Plan Options
Calla Insurance is not affiliated with Medicare or the federal government. We are a private company offering services related to Medicare plans. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800 MEDICARE to get information on all options.
Medicare is a U.S. government health insurance program mainly for those who are 65 and older, some younger folks with disabilities and those with End-Stage Renal Disease. (ESRD). A person on Medicare is called a Medicare Beneficiary.
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is designed to pay for 80% of covered expenses and the Medicare Beneficiary would be responsible for the other 20%. There is no maximum as to what that 20% can amount.
A broker/agent gets involved in assisting a beneficiary by reviewing the various health insurance plan options, by private insurance companies, that can help cover towards that 20% along with Prescription Drug coverage options. You do not pay anything for this assistance.
Medicare itself is broken down into four parts:
Part A – Hospital Insurance
Covers:
- Hospital stays
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Hospice care
- Some home health care
✅ Most people don’t pay a premium for Part A.
Part B – Medical Insurance
Covers:
- Doctor visits
- Outpatient care
- Preventive services (like screenings and vaccines)
- Some home health care
💵 There is a monthly premium for Part B that will change from year to year.
Part C – otherwise known as Medicare Advantage
- An all-in-one plan offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare.
- Includes Part A + Part B, and usually Part D (drug coverage).
- Often offers extra benefits (like dental or vision).
🛡️ It’s an alternative to Original Medicare.
Part D – Prescription Drug Coverage
Covers:
- Prescription medications
💊 Also offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare.
How Do You Get Medicare?
- You’re automatically enrolled when you turn 65 if you’re getting Social Security.
- Otherwise, you need to sign up (usually through the Social Security office).
Once you have your Medicare Beneficiary number, you’ll want to decide if you want to stick with Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and purchase what is called a Medicare Supplement or Medigap plan, along with a Part D plan or else go with a Part C plan that rolls it all into one plan. Visit www.medicare.gov for full details on your options or you may contact us to get help with determining what might be a best fit solution.
Employer Health Plans
These are group health insurance plans that companies offer to their employees. The employer pays part of the premium and the employee pays the rest, usually deducted from their paycheck, often as a pre-tax expense.
Calla Insurance assists small group employers (with 50 and under employees) in setting up these health plans for their employees.
Term Life Insurance
Term life insurance is a type of life insurance that provides coverage for a specific period of time — or “term” — such as 10, 20, or 30 years.
If you die during the term, your beneficiaries (like your spouse, kids, or another chosen person) get a payout (called the death benefit).
If you outlive the term, the policy usually ends, and there’s no payout.
💡 Why Would You Get Term Life Insurance?
People typically get it to protect their family during key financial years, such as when:
- They’re raising children
- They have a mortgage or other large debts
- A spouse or child depends on their income
- They want to cover college costs or funeral expenses if they die early
It’s about making sure your loved ones are financially protected if something happens to you.
👍 Benefits of Term Life Insurance
- Much cheaper than whole life insurance
- Easy to understand
- You can choose the term to match your needs (like until your kids are grown)
Short Term Medical Insurance
Short-Term Medical Insurance is a temporary health insurance plan that helps cover unexpected medical expenses, like:
- Emergency room visits
- Hospital stays
- Some doctor visits
It’s not designed to replace a full health plan but you might need one if:
- You’re between jobs and lost employer coverage
- You missed open enrollment for ACA/marketplace plans
- You’re waiting for other coverage to start (like Medicare or a new job plan)
- You want lower premiums and accept limited coverage (e.g., you’re healthy and just need something for emergencies)
Short-term plans do not have to cover all essential health benefits. While they may have lower monthly premiums and fast approval timelines (often same day), they can only be purchased for 3 months at a time before renewing and can only be issued by an insurer for up to a total of 4 months. After that a consumer must go with another insurer, for another plan, because the consumer cannot be insured by the same insurer again within 12 months.
Limited Benefit Health Insurance
These plans are more like supplemental insurance in that they pay out capped amounts for medical expenses. While some offer preventive care, they have more limits on items such as emergency services than short term health insurance.
These plans work well with Affordable Care Act Compliant plans and assist with expenses that would normally be a consumer’s cost under plan deductibles or out of pocket maximums.
Dental and Vision Insurance
Since many health plans do not automatically offer dental and vision in their covered services, we offer standalone dental and vision options depending upon your needs. Some insurers put waiting periods on dental services but often those can be waived with proof of 12 months of prior coverage and no more than a 63 day lapse between plans.
Travel Insurance
If you get sick or injured while traveling, your regular health insurance may not cover you outside of your home country. Travel medical insurance ensures that you’ll get coverage for hospital stays, doctor visits, surgeries, or emergency treatments.
If you’re in a remote location or the medical care where you are is insufficient, travel medical insurance can cover the cost of an emergency evacuation to a facility with proper care. These evacuations can be extremely expensive, often costing tens of thousands of dollars.
While not strictly “medical,” many travel insurance plans also include benefits for trip cancellations or interruptions due to illness, injury, or other emergencies. This can help you recover costs if you need to cancel or cut short your trip.
Travel medical insurance translates to peace of mind, knowing you won’t face monumental medical costs while traveling abroad.
